Gourmet Station

Gourmet Station Reviews - Prepared Meal Delivery Reviews

When we first reviewed Gourmet Station the price of our meals were $20. Today, the company requires you to buy two meals and prices vary from $25 to $30 each.

Our reviews are based on value, meaning we have to ask ourselves: Would be reorder the meal at the price we paid for it? A thumbs up is Yes, a thumbs down is No.

In business since 1999, Gourmet Station brings epicurean delights directly into your home. For connoisseurs who are looking for an elegant meal at home, this high end food delivery service might be your cup of tea. Creating a large selection of regional and contemporary fine dining classics is essential for a company that wishes to stand apart from other frozen food companies.

Suppose you wanted to cook a gourmet meal for a romantic evening, except you don't know how to cook. Worse than that, you wouldn't know what to buy in the supermarket. All is just an online order away at Gourmet Station.
These meals are not prepared. They are prepped and assembled like your Sous Chef would do you if you had one. All you have to do is preheat the oven and put the metallic trays in. It is that simple. They won't go in a microwave. Everything is uncooked.

The quality of the meals we tried were awesome. We may have slightly over-cooked our duck a bit, but all in all, we had fun making these meals and even more fun eating. They would be perfect if they came with a vegetable, which is why Gourmet Station lost a star in our review. The gifting solutions are endless! Their options include gift meal services where shoppers can select food from a wide range of culinary styles, including Parisian, Tuscan, Cajun, Fusion, and Americana. While you do not need to be a trained chef to prepare the meals, there is some work required in order to coordinate all the elements of their fine dining experience. Although this can seem tedious to some, it is well worth it for others that have access to high-quality meals requiring very little cooking know-how. Gourmet Station reviews can show you how they are able to bring fine dining to your home.
The packaging from Gourmet Station is extensive to say the least. Each individually wrapped component of the meal is designed to be prepared in a very specific sequential order. While this might seem overwhelming, many find the process leaps and bounds easier than attempting to actually cook a gourmet meal from scratch.

The selections are so diverse that you can satisfy even the pickiest eaters. They even have a wine pairing guide.

Our Gourmet Station Review of their Meal Delivery Service

Gourmet Station Meals We Would Reorder
Gourmet Station Meals We Would Not Reorder
Manchester Quail - $99 Serves Two
Manchester Quail - $20

I would have much preferred this meal came with a green vegetable, and I thought the price was well within reason, but I appreciated the company being able to deliver a high-quality gourmet meal someone still learning their way around can make at home. This meal literally goes from the tin to the oven and comes just as you see in the picture.

Another use might be found in food gifting. Suppose you wanted to send a unique food gift to someone who may appreciate a meal like this. It is an option, but don't get it for a chef, they can make their own.

Lamb Top Sirloin - $99 Serves Two
Lamb Top Sirloin - $20

I agree with Chef about there not being any green vegetables to make this a complete meal. I thought the potatoes were excellent, as was the Lamb Top Sirloin. I didn't think this meal was worth $20. Most people associate lamb with being expensive, and it's not anymore.

The Top Sirloin, like a Beef Top Sirloin, is a flavorful cut but not an expensive one. In my opinion, There was room here to either lower the price or add more food to the meal.

Peking Duck Breast - $99 Serves Two
Peking Duck Breast - $20

First, let me share with you, the skin on this duck breast is not supposed to be burnt. I feel bad using this picture because I would not serve this if you were in my restaurant. Even chefs can have a bad day in the kitchen.

I seem to be the only one the staff in love with this service. Here is another culinary, high-class meal a novice can enjoy at home. And they can make it without burning the skin as I did!

Beef Ribs - $109 Serves Two
Beef Ribs - $20

I see this meal delivery website as a food gift service more than I see it being used for regular prepared meal deliveries. Home Bistro is in the same price range, and I think customers would enjoy their menu and reheating convenience more than this service. It seems like they are wedged between a prepared meal delivery service and the new Meal Kit services popping up.

As for the meal I had, it was okay. To be honest, I couldn't get past the price, the inconvenience of baking it, and the Beef came out dry and overdone based on their cooking directions. The ribs were fatty, and the bark was great, but I wouldn't reorder this meal for $20.

Chicken Wellington - $20
Chicken Wellington - $20

I think for $20 the company could have used filet mignon instead of chicken, especially when they are not providing the consumer with a vegetable side. If you haven't noticed, the prices of these meals are had for me to swallow, no pun intended.

The Chicken Welling was prepared exactly as it should be. To Chef Piquanti's point, a novice can create a fantastic dish at home just by opening his oven. I would have like to see the crust a more like a traditional Wellington, but I would repurchase this for $20 in limited situations.

Chef Piquanti Review of Gourmet Station

Gourmet Station sets themselves apart from other gourmet cuisine gifting companies because of the wide variety of food gifts ideas they provide. Initially, they began by selling 3-4 course gourmet dinner gifts for special occasions, but expanded their selection to include steak and seafood dinners, soups, desserts and even gift certificates.

Their menu categories and inspiration for their cuisine comes from International, Parisian, Tuscan, Cajun, Fusion and Americana foods. There is a lot to be excited about from the menu of Gourmet Station. My order was $99.99, and I decided to create a custom 5-day meal plan, which made each meal $19.99.

The meals do not come with a vegetable, which makes it much harder to say I would order it again at $19.99. I prefer to have complete meals, but it is not so hard to make a quick vegetable side dish.

Consumer Poor Gourmet Station Review
Horrible Customer Service

Overall: No Medal
  • Website Ease of Ordering: Fair
  • Reheating: Poor
  • Customer Service: Poor
  • Shipping: Poor
  • Taste and Food Quality: Poor
  • Value: Poor
This was the worst online shopping experience, EVER. Customer service was beyond horrible.

Admittedly, I had a typo in the address that the package was to be delivered to. They use UPS, and do not provide tracking information until there's a problem and you request it. No returned phone call by Donna, although I left two messages. Also of note, when shipping with Federal Express, if there's a wrong address, they call the shipper to resolve. And, any business that provided decent customer service would call the patron. Wouldn't you think that a company/business that serves EXPENSIVE AND PERISHABLE food would ship with a carrier that would ensure their food item is received by the intended customer? I was just told:

"The only way to get a food gift to him now is to place another order. I am sorry and I know that this is not what you want to hear. But we did our part and UPS did their part." I have never been treated like this nor treated anyone else like this in business. I find it absolutely deplorable! The "reheating and food taste" categories above had to be marked to create a review. Obviously we neither reheated or tasted the food as it never arrived.
